Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (00:01):
Ed is the man.

Ed Kearsley (00:46):
Good evening.

(00:48)
Webster’s Dictionary defines let’s make a comic book as a show where we make a comic book with a different artist for every single panel. And tonight’s no different. We are joined by three brilliant artists. We have Ethan, deshawn, and Dan Watts here, and we are going to make a page in front of your very eyes. First, we shall have a look at last week where we had Adam Gillespie with the ah, my leg. I need to reach it with bitsy grabbing onto one of Whale Octopus’s exploded tentacles. And then Jonathan Saunders had a big flying saucer show up and it looks like bitsy and all the junk is being sucked into the flying saucer by a tractor beam. And that is where we shall be continuing from.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:47):
Awesome.

Ed Kearsley (01:48):
And to see which panel we get or which panel layout we’re going to spin the wheel of layouts and it is,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (02:04):
It’s a triangle one.

Ed Kearsley (02:06):
This one, just

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (02:10):
To make it fun.

Ed Kearsley (02:12):
Yeah, let me press some buttons. There we go. Oh

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (02:16):
Yeah, I’ll do that. Sorry.

Ed Kearsley (02:19):
So if s you want to have a look at the chat while I find the one that it was,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (02:26):
Funnily enough, we had Ed come on and say, I can’t do that moment. I blocked my voice so I can’t actually do that noise, but that’s what he did. You can see it on the screen. Yeah. What Carrie just said. Lee Chalker hand signals galore. Oh, and a flower that’s new. Nice. Absent minded. Gave us a hi and a wave. Jeffrey said, good day folks. William has given us a good day, William and Shawnee. I said howdy. Howdy.

Ed Kearsley (03:06):
I forgot to check which one it was. So if you guys keep talking for a sec while I

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (03:13):
Okay.

Ed Kearsley (03:14):
Troubleshoot. I can talk

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (03:15):
Mistake. Not very well, but I can talk.

Ed Kearsley (03:18):
Tell us about the Brisbane Comic-Con thing.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (03:21):
Yeah, so this weekend in two days, Sunday and Sunday at Brisbane Convention Centre will be s Comic-Con, myself and Hugh Gown will be there interviewing people and walking around with a flashy camera and talking to everyone we can talk to, be it crater, be it cos player, whatever. We are there to promote everyone and to promote the S Comic Con for letting us come in there and do our thing. So that will be cool. So if you see us, please, please come over and say good day. On the first day I’ll be the guy in the bright orange shirt, so I’ll be easy to spot.

Ed Kearsley (04:02):
Excellent. Now it’s time to do the hand of choosing. We’ll go with Ethan. Do you get to pick a number?

Ethan Harris (04:15):
Let’s go number four.

Ed Kearsley (04:18):
Number four, number three, you one third and we’ll get haw. You pick a number between one and three, number two. Number two is number one.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (04:37):
Ah, you’re first buddy.

Ed Kearsley (04:40):
Dan is second. And that thing is in the private chat for you guys to look at.

Dushan Silva (04:46):
Yeah. Got it.

Ed Kearsley (04:49):
And for Dan, if you just hold on a sec,

Daniel Watts (04:58):
Basic shape and then

Ed Kearsley (05:00):
Yeah, it’s 15.3 centimetres by 11 and just cut that in half and that should work. Alright. All right. So

Dushan Silva (05:15):
Who’s first

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (05:15):
Daan you write ratio similar to that, if you want to draw bigger.

Dushan Silva (05:19):
So what I’ll do, I’ll just do the, probably do my panel.

Ed Kearsley (05:26):
Yeah, you start drawing dhan and we’ll have a chat with Ethan. So tell me about squish squash. What is that?

Ethan Harris (05:39):
So it’s something that myself and a few of my peers from uni days created. It’s a community based in Adelaide, but we’re starting to get some New South Wales people in, which is pretty exciting.

Daniel Watts (05:54):
Oh cool.

Ethan Harris (05:54):
It’s a pretty casual, it’s just a place artists, creatives, designers to hang out. We do events online and in person. We ran our version of in October last year and we’re doing it again this year. So that’s what I’ve been preparing, getting ready for all of that, making the prompts, getting ready to spend some time every day drawing, which is always fun. But yeah, you can see it on team Squish quash on Instagram. We’re all very friendly. Lots of us now. Yeah,

Ed Kearsley (06:33):
That’s awesome. So how long has that been going for?

Ethan Harris (06:37):
It’s been just over a year now. Sorry, a bit longer than a year now. About a year and a half. So still pretty fresh based in Adelaide but expanding.

Ed Kearsley (06:53):
So it’s just like an artist collective kind of,

Ethan Harris (06:57):
Yeah, we have social things on Discord, like the application, we have a server there with people can post their work and chat about their work and chat while drawing. We share tips and trips and stuff. It’s very casual but it’s a nice place just to hang out. I posted this show in there, so there might be some people watching from squish squash at the moment.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (07:25):
Nice. Yeah, can’t make the noise

Ethan Harris (07:27):
At all. Cross-promoting is always fun. Fine,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (07:30):
Excellent. Cross motion is a beautiful thing.

Ed Kearsley (07:35):
It’s the best. Pardon me? Have we got some more comments?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (07:42):
No, unless my thing’s frozen up. I’ve got howdy, howdy from Shay. Still

Ed Kearsley (07:49):
Nice

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (07:51):
Eating more.

Ed Kearsley (07:52):
No, I just hadn’t refreshed it.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (07:55):
Okay, cool.

Ed Kearsley (08:01):
Well everyone else is getting their stuff in order. Ethan, tell us about what they left behind.

Ethan Harris (08:09):
So that is my first major self-published comic that I released this year early in the year. It’s on my website if you want to read it. Sci-fi comic. It’s the part one of two. So I started working on the second and it’s a bit of a, it’s got some horror elements in it, but it’s a sci-fi story about a marine who is just searching for a new home after earth has kind of collapsed and humans have destroyed it and they’re all searching in the stars for a new place They call home, they find a place that is habitable but something goes wrong and that’s when the story gets interesting when they land on the planet and see what’s there. But it’s my first real big release. Took a while to get out, but I’m really happy that it’s finished and excited to get going with the second one.

Ed Kearsley (09:14):
Oh, that’s cool. So what was the inspiration to that? The space stuff?

Ethan Harris (09:22):
I grew up with Star Wars and all those kind of movies, sci-fi, fantasy movies, so I was just kind of who I am really. I love to join that content. So I thought may as well make that content as well. If you like what you’re doing, it’s not work, right. So yeah.

Ed Kearsley (09:43):
Well you should be good for bitsy the trade cat because it’s set in space.

Ethan Harris (09:49):
Yeah, absolutely.

Ed Kearsley (09:58):
How you going with your panel hun?

Dushan Silva (10:05):
I’m going to do the, so he’s beamed into the UFO, so he’s inside the UFO now. Right. And then you see the alien that beed me. So you can see the cat here and I’m going to draw the creature, hang on, sorry, bring up your screen.

Ed Kearsley (10:29):
Oh, was a big guy.

Dushan Silva (10:30):
Oh cool. So I’m going to do a big monster kind of alien.

Ed Kearsley (10:49):
That should be enough to get Dan going.

Dushan Silva (10:59):
Let’s see, be of a table.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:04):
Hang on, you are shooting the phone down at your screen. Can you see us, Dan?

Daniel Watts (11:09):
No, I can’t see you but I can look around.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:12):
Okay. Because on the screen at the moment we’ve got what Duchenne’s drawing?

Daniel Watts (11:17):
Yep.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:18):
So you’ll need to follow this.

Daniel Watts (11:21):
No problem.

Ethan Harris (11:21):
Yep, I can see that.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:23):
Cool,

Ethan Harris (11:25):
No worries. Now I’m just sitting here patiently.

Ed Kearsley (11:32):
Just got some tentacles.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:34):
Yeah, we’re getting tentacles

Dushan Silva (11:35):
Back. Yeah, tentacles

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:38):
Can’t get rid of them.

Dushan Silva (11:40):
It’s the original. I saw the what? The octopus kind of alien. So I thought maybe have something.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:50):
So many things I want to say

Dushan Silva (11:54):
The story.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (11:57):
Stupid rules. You made these rules. Stupid rules. Damn damnit. Oh it’s looking awesome Chen.

Ed Kearsley (12:14):
Thanks. So Dashan, tell us about how laser array three is progressing

Dushan Silva (12:25):
Laser array. So I’ve been doing the pencils, but I got another book that I’m doing called Mighty Mary for American Writer. So I’m working on that at the same time doing issue three, but I’m doing them on hand, drawing them on a two size paper, like pencilling them. So I’ve already done I think around nine pages

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (13:02):
Your machine

Dushan Silva (13:04):
And I had to, the total book is 30 pages and yeah, it’s big because I want to do big action. It’s like the finale of the 1, 2, 3, this is the last one and it’s going to be, is pretty much like a video game bus battle. So she’s going to go, if you read the issue one and two, this is the conclusion of that arc. So once she’s in the second issue, she’s being captured and in this one she’s going to get spoiler, but she’s going to get to get free and she’s going to be getting her revenge on all the mutants. So it’s going to be like she’ll be fighting each sort of level up mutant and then she’ll be finally coming to the boss battle where you probably seen the promo for the ate three with the big red monster community. So that’s the boss. So that’s kind of, if you read issue two and one, I think end of issue two, you see this bald guy who captured Rise. So that guy is that monster so he can convert into that. You’ll see that in what

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (14:50):
The spoilers,

Dushan Silva (14:53):
You’ll see all my pages being shared. I’ll be sharing them. Alright, cool. Only with you, you can So yeah, very excited. Hopefully I can finish it. I’m taking my time so it becomes, looks good.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (15:20):
Alright, cool.

Dushan Silva (15:21):
Yeah,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (15:23):
Well I’ll do my part as your publisher and just say check out the, oh sorry. Kickstarter page. There’s the link to it. Liza ray.com X studio that’ll take you to the pre-launch page. You can hit that notify and it will email you when it actually gets a launched. Launched. Can’t think of words.

Ed Kearsley (15:52):
I think we’ve got a

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (15:54):
Comment. Oh Don Tio has just come in. Hi all. Keep drawing. Don’t tell me what to do, Don. Hang on, I’m not drawing. How can I keep drawing s silly statement. Now we’ve got a bit of a controversy or a bit of a debate. Are you giving the cat tail duan? It looks like you are.

Dushan Silva (16:28):
I’m just looking at the previous drawing. He has a tail.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (16:33):
No, that’s cool. Everyone’s doing it a bit different. Some people are drawing a towel, some people aren’t, so it’s all good.

Ed Kearsley (16:40):
We did have confirmation from Alex who design bitsy that she doesn’t have a tail, but that hasn’t stopped just about

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (16:51):
Everyone from wearing it. It didn’t make it clear.

Dushan Silva (16:55):
I think everyone has been okay, so I’ll take it out. No,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (16:58):
No, it’s up to you man. You can take it out if you want. You can leave it if you want. It’s totally up to you. It’s interpretation in each panel of whether she has a towel or not. I think I gave her a towel in mine. So

Ed Kearsley (17:15):
What page were you on?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (17:18):
Oh, I can’t remember now. It’s easy to spot in the thing because it’s a really badly drawn one. Yeah, there it is. I was on page six.

Daniel Watts (17:28):
Page six.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (17:35):
Look at that hydro looking octopus. Can’t get away from Marvel no matter what I do.

Ed Kearsley (17:46):
How’s your panel going, Dan?

Daniel Watts (17:50):
Yeah, I’ve got a little sketch here. Started out, it’s got quite a bit more of a closeup of the main character.

Ed Kearsley (18:00):
Did it bring up his screen? Says

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (18:03):
Yep, almost hit the remove button.

Ed Kearsley (18:13):
Are you doing a reverse of Deshawn’s?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (18:16):
Yeah, I like it. I can kind of see what’s going on.

Ed Kearsley (18:22):
Can you get the camera or the paper closer to the camera so Ethan can get a look at it?

Ethan Harris (18:32):
Nice.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (18:34):
Oh hang on.

Ethan Harris (18:36):
I think we’ve got reverse.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (18:37):
Am I wrong?

Dushan Silva (18:40):
Oh nice. Wrong triangle. Is

Daniel Watts (18:45):
That right?

Ed Kearsley (18:47):
I think, am I? Hold on a sec. Yeah, so you should be in the other one. So you’ve gone to panel three, so yeah, we’ll do a bit of quick editorial stuff. So Ethan is now panel two.

Ethan Harris (19:19):
Alright, so now I got to bend the InBetween.

Ed Kearsley (19:22):
Yeah, so you know what happens before and after.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (19:28):
Alright, it’s all good Dan, keep doing what you’re doing.

Daniel Watts (19:33):
We invited Dan anyway.

Ed Kearsley (19:40):
Cool. So take a look at some comments.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (19:46):
Oh yeah. Oh, we’ve got a few. Come in now. Hi everyone Looking good from Adam Gillespie. What’s this William? A thousand Monkeys with a thousand pencils will eventually let’s make a comment. So a thousand mes, is that what you’re trying to say? And we all have a thousand pencils each. Is that how it works? I don’t know, and it’s like a turtle tail. She pops in and out. I like it. Or it’s like a stitch tail. She pops in in and out. I didn’t know that. And Souls very young though. And Adam says he definitely put a towel off panel. Well I’m just going to this so I get alerted.

Ethan Harris (20:48):
Tell me about the big character in your first panel. What’s going on there? I need to put the cheese together again. This kind of fun challenge now

Ed Kearsley (21:06):
This is a big muscle guy with a monster face and tentacle arms

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (21:11):
Lost the teeth box to it. I could be seeing that wrong. No poor bitsy. Can’t get away from those tentacles. Spent like what, nine, eight pages with them

Dushan Silva (21:36):
And then it’s back

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (21:38):
Then it’s back just after Exploding. Whale got the monster, man.

Ed Kearsley (21:44):
We could have the subtitle. Let’s make a comic book Bitsy the traded cat. Tentacles. Tentacles. Tentacles.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (21:53):
I like it. Add a theme. If we get rid of this monster, someone’s got to bring back tentacles in some form or another

Ed Kearsley (22:03):
That’s influencing the story, sis.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (22:05):
Oh no, I’m doing it again. Just stop it.

Ed Kearsley (22:13):
So Dan, in 2016 I bought a comic book off you called Bi and Tracks Intergalactic Real Estate and I just got around to reading it the other day and I quite enjoyed it. I did a review of it on a recent reads on a Monday show.

Daniel Watts (22:41):
Yep.

Ed Kearsley (22:42):
So tell us about that, the creation of that and why you picked the newspaper strip format and stuff.

Daniel Watts (22:57):
Yeah, well I had been just driving myself crazy and my family and friends crazy for years wanting to draw a comic book and just whinging about trying to find the time and have that experience of actually doing it. I’d done a little short comic and I’d done a couple of short stories before I created the actual comic, but I kind of designed bit and tracks when I was in high school. Grade 12, I actually made the little figurines out of Old GI Joes and I kind of designed them making toys as well as sketching back then.

(23:43)
Yeah, finally pulled my finger out in 2016 out and then I just started drawing. I just went like, that’s it. I was thicker thinking about it. I’m not a very good script writer, but I can tell a story through images a lot better than writing. I can write better now and practise a lot more since I’ve done that comic and things like that. But yeah, I just started drawing. I started got the, what was the name of it? It was like a comic strip, daily comic strip art paper I think that was made, I can’t remember who made the paper, but it was a nice illustration card and it was already in the format of the daily comic strip, so I just bought off. I bought that in bulk. It was on sale, so I just started drawing and then I’ve always been a fan of the Old Foot Flats and Garfield and the original old comic strips out of the newspapers. So originally I was wanting to do the idea, the overall idea was to create a sci-fi adventure cartoon comic strip, a newspaper and typically all the newspapers is kind of drawing up really in some ways over the last couple of years.

(25:12)
And then there was all the art magazines and all the on street press, all those types of things. I was going to promote it in them and try to put it in one of those, but even they all dried up and kind of disappeared over the years from when I was working and studying art and things like that. A lot of inspiration, looking at all the old, the punk posters and all the different music posters and stuff like that. Anyway, yeah, so I just started, I just thought knuckle down, just start coming up with an idea with some pages and then I think I got maybe 10 pages in and then I kind of got lost. So Michelle, a couple of pages. Can you see

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (26:00):
That? All right, I boost you up.

Daniel Watts (26:03):
Yep. And then yeah, so I just started and then started getting a bit more inspiration and I kind of stopped and then I started to plan it a bit more, which is what you really supposed to do. So I started doing thumbnails and then writing out ideas and a bit more plots and things like that. And then I had a lot of help from my friend Marie Moore. She really helped me out with layout of just the bubbles and she done put all the, she’d done all the lettering and basically put it all form into getting it ready for print and things like that. So she’d done a great job and I wouldn’t have been able to really do it without helping that jet in that side of things, which I had no idea how to do. But yeah, that was most of my inspiration is obviously like 2000 ad and Star Wars and the old sci-fi comics.

(27:17)
So that was what kind of drove me to do it. And then I was trying to just find something with a bit of a different kind of twist to it. So I kind of came up with the intergalactic real estate idea and it was always going to be an underdog type of scenario. Dip and tracks to pretty much street street kids or people they live on the street and they have living rough and things like that and they end up doing some work for a real estate agent who’s like an interlaced real estate agent who’s just basically a stereo type market underground crook. He just ripped him off basically the whole time. So yeah, cover there.

Daniel Watts (28:11):
Very cool base

Daniel Watts (28:11):
Captain, space captain speed. Want to look him up on Everyone should know on Instagram and Facebook. He covered that for me, which I was blown away.

Ed Kearsley (28:23):
Oh nice.

Daniel Watts (28:24):
I did the pencils and inks and then yeah,

Ed Kearsley (28:29):
So I got a pretty big Ninja Turtles vibe from the book as well. The original

Daniel Watts (28:36):
Kevin Eastman and things like that. All those shakes. Yeah, working, drawing the Ninja Turtle’s heads all the time that kind of, I think when I was in high school I kind of just done that round head. It was actually even more rounder from the original design and then made it a bit more oval. The oval shape came from more sculpting, making the toys kind of thing, squashing it down and trying to find something little bit different. I got quite in a flow when I was doing these pages. I was able to spend a lot of time on them and I was very happy with the final product. There’s always things when you read it back now and always mistakes and things that you’d like to change, but you’ve got to just keep moving forward and create new things I believe in anyway. It’s always the best learning lessons.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (29:36):
That’s really cool.

Daniel Watts (29:37):
Yeah, thank you. Yeah, it was an excellent project to work on. I’d like to do it again one day, but yeah, finding the time to do that is a little bit hard now I have more ideas and have more stories. I’ve even got some stories written by other creative Aussie creators. They helped me out with a couple of little short stories, which I’d love to draw one day. But yeah,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (30:09):
That’s really cool

Daniel Watts (30:10):
Time.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (30:12):
Be nice to see more. Dan

Daniel Watts (30:16):
Really do want getting to do some fun things that I’ve always wanted to do. I’m not too fussed not doing the comics at the moment. Yeah,

Ed Kearsley (30:31):
Everyone in chat yell at Dan to do another bipp and tracks.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (30:36):
Yeah, we’ll do it. I can’t do that noise. Damn it.

Ed Kearsley (30:41):
Oh, I’ve got a question for Dhan. Is there going to be any dialogue in your panel? No.

Dushan Silva (30:51):
Let’s see.

Ed Kearsley (30:53):
Is it just going to have that, the ominous monster.

Dushan Silva (30:57):
Monster?

Ed Kearsley (31:01):
It looks like they’re robot arms coming off him.

Ethan Harris (31:06):
Ah, it’s not quite. Can we do a zoom on the head there? I need some reference material. Yeah, no,

Dushan Silva (31:21):
Get rid of the blue

Daniel Watts (31:24):
Could possibly come up. Awesome.

Ed Kearsley (31:31):
Could we get a look at how Ethan’s panels going? Yep. We’ll

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (31:36):
Bring you up full screen.

Ethan Harris (31:38):
Yeah, we had some tech issues. So I’m doing it old school so I don’t know if it’s cheating, but I don’t think it is in my books. I’m actually doing two panels in the one

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (31:51):
We’ve had three in one, so

Ethan Harris (31:53):
I’ve got them doing a little stare down right before whatever happens in the third panel.

Ed Kearsley (32:01):
Nice. That’s clever. I like it.

Ethan Harris (32:06):
Yeah. Is there a dialogue in the third panel?

Ed Kearsley (32:11):
Yes. Look like Dan’s got a speech bubble. I

Daniel Watts (32:13):
Think I might be bring it on or something like that. Ready fight. Ready for the fight anyway.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (32:21):
Bitsy has got a bit of spunk about her. She would say something like that. Are the audience allowed to push the are direction of things? Am I allowed to bring those points up? Yeah, they’re okay. It’s just me. It’s just me who’s not allowed. Damn it. I can’t be trusted apparently. So inside the monster could be a cute little dog, like a costume. That’s Jeffrey. Thank Jeffrey. I was thinking something similar that it turned out to be something friendly, but next week. Next week. Not that I said that I didn’t say anything. Ed, don’t look at me like that Jonah said. Just did bit of wave. Thanks there. We’ve got Nick May doing, I don’t even know what that creature is. Some sort of screaming

Ed Kearsley (33:04):
Like a pink crocodile or something.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (33:07):
Yeah, and Nick May saying, come on Dan, do more. So we’ve got some screaming going on. It’s just it’s Nick May so far

Ed Kearsley (33:16):
Fan tracks

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (33:18):
For the entire audience. Let’s space it. He speaks for them all I bring. He doesn’t love what is happening over here. I get us back on the screen though. There we go. I’m covered by comment. Excellent. Just the way it should be. I’m just going to leave that up for a while Dan, just so you can soak it in.

Daniel Watts (33:53):
Yep.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (33:53):
Come on Dan. Do more. That’s the comment I’m leaving up on the screen.

Daniel Watts (33:57):
Okay, I think I’ll start

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (34:01):
Off the show. Get straight into it.

Ed Kearsley (34:05):
Let’s make a comic books exclusive. We’ve got confirmation.

Daniel Watts (34:12):
Alright. Better people are telling me so I better have a go. Didn’t mean to do something.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (34:28):
I like this Jeffrey’s saying, this is how all comics should be done. Every deadline would be,

Ethan Harris (34:47):
It would be quite a fun challenge to have the start and end of the story and then you just have to do the middle bit.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (34:55):
You’ve done well for being stuck in the middle like that. Show a stand down like it

Ed Kearsley (35:03):
Another first for this episode. Yeah,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (35:10):
True. Jeffrey’s saying the monster is awesome. It’s for you. Duchenne.

Dushan Silva (35:18):
Oh thanks.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (35:35):
Oh, getting a runny nose. Sorry about that folks. We need more comments so that I can hide my face.

Daniel Watts (35:46):
Yeah,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (35:50):
I mean, so that we have more interaction. It’s not about hiding my face so I can wipe my nose. It has nothing to do with it.

Ed Kearsley (36:02):
Is there any more comics, studio TV shows coming up?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (36:13):
Not this week and I can’t do Saturday because I will be at Yes, clean up your act. Thank you, Nick. There’s no show tomorrow night because there was, I’ve been sick for the last couple of weeks, so I didn’t organise people for a show that’s meant to have a lot of people on it. So rather than rushing it and having a lot of upset people, we just, I’m having a break before I do this big thing on the weekend. So nice. Yeah, so there’ll be no Saturday show of course, because I will be at the Oz Comic Con in Brisbane.

Ed Kearsley (36:54):
Have you thought of live streaming from the

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (36:57):
Well, I was thinking we could do some live stream while as well. The camera won’t be able to live stream, but my phone will be able to. So I’m of doing some live streaming as well as the recorded interviews. I just haven’t thought it through enough to think what, well, here we go. The audience, what should I live stream interview on the camera, but what should I do that’s live streams? Just because you’re not meant to film or photograph cosplays and so forth without permission. Well people are general. They don’t even have to be cosplaying. So I can’t just randomly film. So

Ed Kearsley (37:42):
Maybe you could do a halftime update or something.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (37:45):
Yeah, yeah. Just feel myself sit down with a creator who lets me sit in their seats. I probably need to sit down by them because I’m an old guy. Can’t walk around all day and yeah, have a chat with ’em or something. Just a general chat rather than a interview. Okay. Oh Jeffrey, you don’t do Oz ComicCon anymore.

Ed Kearsley (38:12):
You can’t do this one.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (38:15):
Oh, you can’t do this. But you’re doing the supernova in November. Okay, cool. All good. Siz. I’m putting these up without reading. This is dangerous. Your health is more important than our entertainment. Is that sarcasm? I don’t know the vibe here. Just joking. Johnny just messing with you. Just messing with you. It’s my birthday on Sunday, Nick,

Ed Kearsley (38:46):
Happy birthday.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (38:47):
No, no. You are meant to come to Brisbane for your birthday so that we can all celebrate with you. You’re doing it wrong. We shouldn’t go to Melbourne. That doesn’t make any sense at all. You live in Melbourne. How’s that a special day for you being where you always are going to be in Brisbane for your birthday. I mean, we’re going to argue because they both start with B. There’s another reason. Do some quick interviews with artists in the alley. Yeah, we’re going to be doing that. Maybe I could have live chats with the other creators there who don’t make comics, who make other things. So maybe I could just do a little general chat with them Nice and live. And then we’ll do all the fancy nice interviews and stuff afterwards.

(39:32)
And happy birthday for Sunday. M May. Yes, I agree. But yeah, it should be a lot of fun. And again, if you are there, please look for me. I would love to either meet you or see you again depending how our past occurrences have occurred. I don’t even know if that’s a sentence. And yeah. So yeah, come up say good day. If you are a creator, I would love to do an interview even if you don’t have a table there. So come up, say good day, let us know you’re there and we’ll have a bit of a chit chat. I’m already trying to convince Dan to do it, so I’m going to try to convince Ethan to do it next and I’ll try my best. I can’t promise anything folks. Chen might be a hard sell because he’s all the way down in Sydney, but if he starts walking after the show, I make it

Dushan Silva (40:29):
Good. Make it

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (40:31):
So no chitchat after the show. Han straight into your running shoes north. That’s all you got to do North. Start walking

Ed Kearsley (40:41):
De Deanne’s. Got a convention too at Adelaide. Oh yes.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (40:47):
Tell us about that.

Dushan Silva (40:49):
So I’m doing Supernova Adelaide this November. I think first. Is it second? Yeah, second. Doing the Art of Dusan. And I’ll be selling some comics books as well. My live survey books and yeah, some of my art. Nice.

Daniel Watts (41:18):
So

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (41:19):
Chen, will you also be going to the Oz ComicCon on Sunday? Or if I put you on the spot? Not Sunday. Next weekend.

Dushan Silva (41:26):
Next weekend. I was thinking about it maybe. Maybe

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (41:36):
It’s a secret. Turn up to the Sydney one people and Duchenne might be there.

Dushan Silva (41:42):
I might be there.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (41:44):
He might be there. Look around for him. Might take your day. He might not be there. Yeah, it’ll be fun. It’s like how do you go seek,

Dushan Silva (41:54):
Let’s

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (41:54):
See, he’s hiding really, really well at home. I’m just babbling now. I think I’m still sick after all. Quick. Someone else talk Sizzle is talking crap.

Ed Kearsley (42:10):
We used to it. Oh God.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (42:21):
Carrie’s in the background. Quick head, quick take over. Take him off the screen.

Ethan Harris (42:30):
I’ll show you an update of my panel.

Daniel Watts (42:32):
Oh

Ed Kearsley (42:32):
Yeah. Oh yeah.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (42:33):
Cool.

Ethan Harris (42:37):
Taking some inspiration from Chen and getting real nice,

Dushan Silva (42:43):
Nice,

Ethan Harris (42:43):
Messy and inky with that creature

Ed Kearsley (42:47):
Getting some hatching.

Ethan Harris (42:49):
Yeah,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (42:50):
That’s awesome.

Ethan Harris (42:52):
Getting the stair going.

Ed Kearsley (42:55):
Let’s have a look at Dan’s now.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (42:57):
Yep. Oh yeah, I almost removed it from the screen.

Ed Kearsley (43:02):
Oh, that’s cool. Nice. Oh, I see what you’re doing there. Yeah, cool. Don’t forget, she’s got a heart on her tummy.

Daniel Watts (43:13):
Oh yeah. Could I just see her character thing treated again or the kitchen is that hard?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (43:21):
See the little heart on her chest? Yeah. Or stomach. It’s hard to tell with that drawing.

Daniel Watts (43:31):
Thank you.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (43:31):
Yeah, I’m having a go at you Alex. You heard me? Yeah. If he’s not watching well I’m definitely having a go at him.

Ed Kearsley (43:43):
You having a go at him for not sending the reference to the artist?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (43:47):
Yeah, totally his fault. Nothing to do with the guy who’s meant to send the reference. Nothing to do with him.

Ed Kearsley (44:02):
No,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (44:02):
We’ve got a nice Ethan and Ethan. Intense comments for yours.

Daniel Watts (44:11):
There you go.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (44:19):
Nick’s saying, whoa, look at those legs. I haven’t really explored bit’s, actual legs. Much looking good. Dan, another comment for you,

Daniel Watts (44:39):
Whoever that was,

Ed Kearsley (44:44):
Is that good Kung fu stance? That bit he’s doing?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (44:47):
Yeah, it is, isn’t it? Hey Ed, this is a part of the show where we start staring, start staring at them, watching, start staring at them drawing and forget that we’re on a show. Yeah,

Ed Kearsley (45:04):
This is my favourite part

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (45:05):
Show Justin just said he’s got a care. Bear belly. Love it.

Daniel Watts (45:21):
Very cool.

Ed Kearsley (45:25):
Got the tradie stare. But we can have a look at Shawnee’s cartoon. Oh

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (45:38):
Yeah, you got to show off Shawnee’s stuff. This is brilliant. There’s a new monster Shawnee. No pressure or anything, but there’s a nuance. No pressure.

Daniel Watts (45:50):
Lots of pressure.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (45:51):
No pressure.

Daniel Watts (45:52):
Lots of pressure.

Ed Kearsley (46:02):
You need a round two now

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (46:10):
We are almost out of time. And I’ve done it again.

Ed Kearsley (46:16):
What’s that?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (46:19):
I haven’t got anyone’s Instagram ready.

Ed Kearsley (46:23):
Classic siz.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (46:24):
Classic sizzle. Right? It’s become quite a common bloody thing now. Thankfully. Dan Watts has his written right there for me to see.

Ed Kearsley (46:34):
We got surely with a dang it. Now I have to do a level two. And Justin, we’ve just followed down on Instagram, man, there’s massive amounts of awesome art there.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (46:48):
Oh, awesome.

Ed Kearsley (46:50):
And we’ve got a classics from Stu and we could go till midnight, right? We could go till about 10 minutes past nine I think. And we’ve got Nick May with the Cs. Make sure you’re following these people.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (47:17):
Oh yeah, don’t look. Don’t want to do the old embarrassing. I’m not following ’em like I did a couple episodes ago.

Ed Kearsley (47:26):
Class six is we need a classic STH Green.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (47:33):
Yeah, we do, don’t we? Oh God. Getting bad enough. We can do, oh, I’m typing Siz now. Bloody hell.

Ed Kearsley (47:43):
Definitely making a classic Siz not an

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (47:47):
It carries like this is not an act. This is this.

Ed Kearsley (47:52):
That’s why we keep you around.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (48:03):
Got Justin background yelling to be on the show just so

Ed Kearsley (48:06):
I could hear it. Justin’s asking Dan what Penny’s using.

Daniel Watts (48:14):
That’s your line, which standard? And then I use the Japanese current ek, I think it’s called I-K-U-R-E-T-H-K-E. They’re really nice brush pen.

Ed Kearsley (48:36):
Cool.

Daniel Watts (48:37):
Yeah, that one and then a fine one. A heavy one and a fine one. I dunno if you can see

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (48:47):
Just, oh, sorry. Just to do. I’m meant to organise before we start the show, Han.

Dushan Silva (48:56):
Yep.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (48:57):
Do you have a Instagram’s? Oh no, sorry. Don’t worry. I’ve just got it. Got it. I thought you had one that had art at the end.

Dushan Silva (49:06):
That’s the Facebook one.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (49:08):
Oh, it’s Facebook. So it

Dushan Silva (49:10):
Wasn’t Instagram is silver.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (49:12):
Yep. Cool.

Ed Kearsley (49:15):
Just me being confused as normal. And we’ve got Justin with a thank you, Dan for showing off the pencils or pens as it were. Weekend

Daniel Watts (49:37):
Maybe will need to be doing the interviewing while,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (49:44):
I dunno if you heard Kerry then, but he said maybe Ethan. Oh God, my brain’s not working at all. Maybe I should be holding the camera while Hugh is doing the interviews. Hold stuff up the camera. You

Ed Kearsley (50:01):
Watch recording himself while she’s talking.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (50:10):
Have the camera backwards doing selfies while he’s doing interviews. Wondering why the sound doesn’t match up.

Ed Kearsley (50:31):
Nick May. May I ask what cologne Dan is using?

Daniel Watts (50:36):
Oh, cologne.

Ed Kearsley (50:49):
Are you all set up sis?

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (50:52):
All set up my friend.

Ed Kearsley (50:53):
All right. So we’re going to do the part of the show that always runs smoothly where we say it’s about that time for the artist to send in their panels to sis. And then I will make a mockup of what the page is going to look like. So Dan can just send in a photo.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (51:16):
Yeah, just send a photo, Dan.

Daniel Watts (51:18):
Oh, just a photo. Yep.

Ed Kearsley (51:21):
And while we’re doing that, I’m

Dushan Silva (51:26):
Done.

Ed Kearsley (51:26):
I will bring up the comics.net au slash store. We can get all your favourite Australian comic books from and got the fast ones here, but got the weird fast things.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (51:48):
I still dunno why it does that. Magic on Ed’s site device that does that.

Ed Kearsley (51:56):
It’s my old que doesn’t play well with the young people’s websites. But if you want to support the local artists and writers and comic book creators, there’s Deshawn’s book, Laie number two, and there’s a number one as well. This is a great way to do it and it also helps to support the running of this. Look at that Todd McFarland stuff that’s so cool helps to support the comics shop so we can get our comics out to the people. And it also helps for sis to be able to pay for the hosting of this website and to pay for the programme that we’re streaming on and stuff. It all costs money. And look, I’ve got number two again, but it’s a great way to help everyone. And you get comics, they’ve got Stu in the chat. Win win.

Dushan Silva (53:15):
Yeah, I send my one to.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (53:20):
Excellent. Thank you buddy.

Ed Kearsley (53:26):
I’ve got to read this. I read the first one, it was awesome.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (53:31):
I read the second one first. People might know that just saying there might be someone, one person out there that doesn’t know that.

Ed Kearsley (53:41):
So the issues one or two have been done on our recent read show, but they were done in the reverse order since reviewed episode two first.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (53:54):
Yeah. And Ed showed everyone how to do a review. Well I showed everyone how not to do a review.

Ed Kearsley (54:05):
What’s this one? Is this Dave do? Yeah.

Daniel Watts (54:07):
Yeah, Dave do

Ed Kearsley (54:10):
That looks cool. I’ve got to put this. Where’s my mouse? Chapter two First Siz. Mr. Stu,

Ethan Harris (54:23):
I need a little animated siz to come on the screen and slap his name or

Ed Kearsley (54:27):
Something. Have you sent those through yet? I didn’t have my thing up.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (54:34):
Yep. I don’t seem to have anything from Mr. Dan. You don’t have to finish it. Dan, just take a photo of what you got now.

Daniel Watts (54:41):
Alright. Am I going to ruin the broadcaster? Maybe.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (54:49):
Oh yeah. I don’t know because you’re using your phone. Oh, well just log back in if you go away.

Ed Kearsley (55:03):
Oh, Deborah’s toilet’s good too. We got, Justin says you can’t have a number two without having a number one, but you have a number one without having a number two. Went above my head, that one.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (55:36):
And I just got to get this. Oh, thanks Dan. Yep. I’ll just send that to Ed.

Ed Kearsley (55:49):
Got Bob the dog versus the apocalypse.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (55:54):
Yeah, it’s a cool book. That one.

Ed Kearsley (55:56):
I’ve got to get that one

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (55:57):
Too. Dks. Really nice girl, woman. Sorry, I’m an old person. We do that.

Ed Kearsley (56:05):
I’m going to stop sharing the screen. Put the thing back

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (56:09):
Up.

Ed Kearsley (56:11):
No, it’s your turn to talk now

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (56:13):
Because you got it’s I turn to talk. Well, just so you know, I got this picture just sent to us. I’ll just upload it. Where did it upload to? Oh, there it is. In Typic. No time at all. Stew has given us this.

Ed Kearsley (56:34):
Ah, that’s great. Keep that on the thing so we can bring it up as needed.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (56:45):
Yeah, you can bring it up whenever you need it. Okay. Now it’s only thing I haven’t even shared my screen. Okay, hang on. We’ll catch up eventually. Don’t you worry. I Who am I picking on first? Oh, that’s me. Who don’t want to pick on me? Ethan. Oh look that he’s got an ad for tonight. That’s what I’m talking about. No, go straight in there. You want an ad for tonight? I’m loving it. This is looking awesome. Oh yeah. Your books at the what store is that? I probably click on

Ethan Harris (57:35):
That. Greenlight Comics in Greenlight

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (57:38):
Too. Cool. Not two. Why

Ethan Harris (57:41):
Local section.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (57:49):
Cool, cool, cool. What’d they leave behind? In my head? I’ve got this, but I dunno where it is. I did send you a copy. A copy. I bought a copy. Well, I have got it. I have seen it. It’s just must be in one of the piles. I’ve got three.

Ethan Harris (58:05):
I’m glad

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (58:05):
Three now I’ve got three to be scanned in and added to the read lists. Piles. That’s how many different piles I have to remind me that I own something so I don’t buy it multiple times. I scan the cup, put it on a website. I still bought a few, I’ve still, I’ve still bought a few a couple of times. Cool. I won’t spend too much time there. I do that thing where I stay on one person’s things forever. We’ve got Duchen, got some cool, say Spiderman. Batman Pictures. Lovely cosplaying there dude. A lot of Batman pictures. Are you a fan of Batman? So are you trying to say, is that from the book?

Dushan Silva (59:07):
That’s from the book.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (59:09):
Cool. Oh, are you trying to do a classic, the cartoon version of that? Man, I love it.

Daniel Watts (59:21):
The new series is amazing, isn’t it? I dunno if you’ve watching

Dushan Silva (59:24):
That. The Cape Crusade, right?

Daniel Watts (59:26):
Yeah.

Dushan Silva (59:27):
Yeah. That’s why when I watched it, soon as I watched it, I needed to draw it again.

Daniel Watts (59:38):
Bruce, a big fan of

Dushan Silva (59:42):
Yeah.

Daniel Watts (59:43):
Lack as much stuff as he I can.

Dushan Silva (59:47):
Only thing I didn’t like was the Sr. Too long

Daniel Watts (59:51):
Move around. Yeah, the original. Original.

Dushan Silva (59:53):
Yeah. The 1939.

Daniel Watts (59:58):
It’s growing on me now though. At first was the same. Yeah. But now I like it.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:00:06):
Definitely getting a bit of a Batman theme here. Yeah,

Dushan Silva (01:00:11):
Pretty much

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:00:14):
Stuff. Oh, I don’t know how Ed’s going, but I might jump to Dan in case I’m staying too long on people and having Ed just sit there going, come on sis, hurry up. This looks awesome. Dan, you probably can’t see what we’re looking at.

Daniel Watts (01:00:32):
Yeah, I can kind of see it. Yeah. Oh,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:00:34):
Okay, cool.

Daniel Watts (01:00:35):
Yep,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:00:38):
We got the Phantom. Some sort of monster. Another monster. Ah, we’ve got the kids. Nice. Yeah,

Daniel Watts (01:00:49):
That’s my

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:00:54):
Very cool art, my friend.

Daniel Watts (01:00:56):
Thank you.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:00:58):
Where are you at, ed? I’m ready. You ready? Okay. We can get rid of me then. And that did not get rid of me.

Ed Kearsley (01:01:12):
That did all my mouse. Where’s my mouse? Come back. Mouse here. Oh, there. It’s

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:01:26):
When it does that.

Ed Kearsley (01:01:29):
So we’ve got Han’s panel with the, you get to see the new monster. I like the tech pieces in the background too.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:01:37):
Yeah, that’s very cool.

Ed Kearsley (01:01:38):
Cool. Spotlight. Oh, there’s a leg for Nick, me. And we’ve got the creepy face and bitsy looking a bit worried. And then the ready to attack. That’s a really nice drawing of bitsy too.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:01:59):
Yeah, that’s cool. I need to know what she’s saying.

Ed Kearsley (01:02:03):
Oh yeah. What’s she’s saying? Dan,

Daniel Watts (01:02:06):
Bring it on or something like that.

Ed Kearsley (01:02:08):
Oh yeah. Nice. Okay. We’ve got some chats to finish up with sis. I,

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:02:21):
Let’s see where we’re up to. We’ve got some classic scissors. We’ve got some number two without having number one. Oh, that was having to go at me again. Oh, I got a Koo and the four Horsemen

Ed Kearsley (01:02:35):
Nice

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:02:35):
Mailed to me yesterday. Nice. William,

Ed Kearsley (01:02:41):
Darren

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:02:42):
S adorable. I can only assume talking to Han, another classic scis. God, they’re coming out of the woodwork.

Ed Kearsley (01:02:55):
Classic. scis is classic.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:03:04):
Emily. The Strange book. I think I have four copies of Emily, the Strange book. Oh yeah. By multiples. Yeah. Same books. Yep. Yep. You do what I do. You need to make a site like me and then you’ll only have two or three of the same book instead of four. See that’s where you’ve fallen apart. Amazing page guys and fantastic page. You have a throw back to last week’s Fantastic four show. What a page extra leg. I’m trying to do the wall thing again. I can’t. Excellent. So that’s caught up on the comments. That page is looking amazing, guys. Hang on. No, none comments have come through Jeep. Great work Peaks from Andrew Law. Great work tonight from Jeffrey. No, fourth. Nike says he’s going to have to create a classic says comic. Well,

Ed Kearsley (01:04:14):
That could be. Let’s make a comic book. Season three.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:04:20):
Every panel is done by different artists. It makes absolutely no sense to the last panel sixes. I, oh dear. Love this page from Justin. I agree. It’s awesome.

Ethan Harris (01:04:41):
Yeah. Awesome. And

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:04:42):
Three different styles just go so well together. Oh no. Justin’s going to encourage Stu now and say he wants to, there is a SI comic.

Ed Kearsley (01:04:56):
Oh yeah, I just had that before.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:04:58):
There’s only three of them left in the shop. They’re almost sold out. S sizzle to the multiverse. There’s some very interesting sizzles in that one. Not sure if any of ’em are classic though.

Ed Kearsley (01:05:14):
They’re all classic. They’re all classic all the time. Okay. So on that note, we will say thank you to Ethan Dehaun and Daniel for coming on tonight.

Daniel Watts (01:05:28):
Thank you for having us. Thank you

Ed Kearsley (01:05:30):
For having me. Thanks for making such an awesome page. And thank the chat and everyone who’s watching and not chatting and everyone who’s going to watch this on the vibe later. And we will thank Stu for making a classic Siz comic and we’ll thanks. Thanks Sue for being classic and I think we’ll get out of here now.

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:06:03):
But

Ed Kearsley (01:06:04):
Everyone just remember

Shane ‘Sizzle’ Syddall (01:06:04):
If you’d like, subscribe and share. See you on the weekend. If you’re in Brisbane, not all.

Daniel Watts (01:06:13):
Bye.
